We all love it when we get a gift don’t we? Especially if it’s something we really, REALLY want or something totally unexpected – but nice too! When we’re given something good we make sure we say thank you and let the person know how much we like and appreciate them giving it to us.
But how easy is it to forget to the same thing with God? Do we always remember to say thanks? And are we always as happy to give as we are to get?
We had 5 Christian and 5 Muslim youth join us for a jewellery making workshop today and we spent some time having a discussion about giving and receiving. We talked about some of the good things God has blessed us with in life and talked about some of the ways we give thanks to God for them. We looked at the importance of being grateful and also talked about how good it can make us feel when we’re the ones giving and bringing a smile to someone’s face!
Then we got down to business, eagerly following the instructions given by E Z Beads (our professional jewellery maker) and it was just so much fun! It was great to see the lovely, unique creations the young people were able to make from earrings to bracelets and necklaces. The best thing was knowing that everyone was making something to keep, and something to give to someone else. They took their time and really thought about who they were going to give their gift to and tried to make sure they chose the right colours and sizes of beads – just to make sure it was definitely ging to be something special.
So, here are two challenges for you:
- Give someone something today. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive or even new – just make someone smile today.
- Spend time thinking about the good things in your life and let God know, in your own way, that you really appreciate Him blessing you!

WOW – looks like a great day, really beautiful jewellery and great to see some boys getting in there and enjoying it too!
Hope it can be done again and I can come
Also great challenges! I’ve always thought that there’s great joy in giving too, so will give something today!
