Saeed and his brother Junaid are two of the ‘old boys’ of Youth Encounter and Lads Faith Adventure Weekends. Four years ago they went with Smeeee (Dr Andrew Smith, our founder and Chair of Trustees) on one of his earliest Lads Weekends, had a great time, and so played a small part in the development of what has now become The Feast. In fact they even appear in the mountain biking photo on our History page.
Recently Saeed bumped into Smeeee in the street outside The Springfield Centre after Friday prayers, and they got to remembering past events. This led to us all getting together for a curry at a local restaurant, with other Muslim lads who had been starting to get involved with the work or were curious. We had lots of fun recalling past events and brainstorming crazy ways we can help Christian and Muslims get on better in our community.
The year has seen The Feast making all these new contacts with Christian and Muslim young people, which is great. Our number and variety of youth event is growing and we have many exciting plans and ideas for the next 12 months. But we need to say that none of this would have been possible without over 50 volunteers who contributed in some way – from admin and IT support, to running and helping on our events! In total they gave us well over 1100 hours of time during the past year.
Starting today is Birmingham City Council’s Volunteers Week, and so we just want to acknowledge and thank our amazing volunteers. The Feast would not be what it is today without you!
Our great hope is that like Saeed and Junaid, our current young people would have an excellent experience with The Feast, meeting and becoming real friends with people of another faith, and then look at staying involved as a volunteer.
If you are interested in getting involved with us in any way, please email us or call and have a chat. Join us in a challenging and very rewarding work that is transforming communities.
