Back on Wednesday 9 November The Feast held our annual Autumn Dinner, with a full house at Al Faisals restaurant in Sparkbrook. It was tremendous to have a night to hear from respected guest speaker Revd Dr Toby Howarth, to unveil the video we filmed on our trip to see the Archbishop of Canterbury, and to share stories from our work from students, a Head Teacher and a parent.
Another highlight was our young comedian Sajid who helped MC the night. Here are some thoughts he shared with us afterwards.
“The Feast has changed my life in many different ways because I have been to various different trips such as the Lads Weekends and that allowed me to socialise in ways that I wouldn’t do at home, religious wise and social wise.
The things that made the last dinner night so good were the people that I knew and how the audience reacted to my jokes and that is the beauty of comedy.
The things that I would say to people who have prejudices against other faiths are that they should not judge a person on what they look like or where they come from, because that is not what god says, and we should look at what is in their heart. Another thing is that some Muslims seem to think that Christians are bad, but I think that they are wrong. This is because I have met lots of Christians that have become my friends and my family and judging from their behaviour and personality, they are actually the best people I’ve ever met.”
The Feast is privileged to work with amazing young people like Sajid, Humaira, Judah, Eve and Bilaal. Together we have been pleasantly surprised by how we could become such good friends, and work to help others overcome prejudice against people who are different to us.
The word mentioned to us over and over after dinner could not say it better - inspiring!!
