It’s that time of the year again when we start to reflect about Eid and plan for Christmas – but what are these really about? Sajid, one of our young volunteers shares about a recent event discussing just that!
Last Sunday I went to the Moseley- Selly Park exchange event and it was for Christian and Muslim teenagers that fancied meeting people from different faiths, cultures and different parts of Birmingham who shared the same passion for their beliefs. It was excellent and this was because meeting different people had influenced me to talk about my religion in a way that I normally wouldn’t do.
First we came together and did a few activities to get to know each other and before we knew it, we were settled in groups and we had to go on a Photo Challenge session for half an hour. This Photo Challenge included taking pictures of schools, shops, and religious buildings so they could see more of our local area. After that was completed, we were put into another group but this one was with people from the same faith as you and we had to perform a little play to teach each other about the story behind Christmas and Eid.
The things that I found interesting were that the stories linked to Eid and Christmas had really strong meanings. Judging from what I saw, everyone was learning a lot about the reason why we have Eid, and why Christians have Christmas. Finally I would like to say that the whole event went perfectly fine and this was because of the leaders and volunteers that were working hard on the day and I would definitely like to take the chance to come to an event like this one again.
