Recently the hard working Local Leadership Team of The Feast in Tower Hamlets held their first Prayer and Curry evening to promote their new venture. The aims were to give information and raise funds among their Christian supporters.
The evening was held at the Bethnal Green Mission Church to launch The Feast in Tower Hamlets with around 40 folk attending from local churches. After curry (thanks Diana!), the national picture was introduced by Dr Andrew Smith (founder). This was followed by the local vision shared through a film of young people from Tower Hamlets talking about religion and an interview with two youth leaders. The aim of The Feast nationally and in Tower Hamlets is “exploring faith, creating friendship and changing lives”.
There was an opportunity for all to discuss their contact with Muslims, and to pray with a partner at the five “stations” around the hall on subjects such as aims, local schools, the leadership team, finance and the first session planned for young people on Saturday 9 March in Stepney. The money raised will contribute towards hiring a neutral venue and providing food for this first youth event.
Our long-term hope is to secure finance for a part or full time worker from September 2013. Meanwhile we hope those who attended the Curry and Prayer evening will know how “The Feast – Tower Hamlets” seeks to promote community cohesion between Christian and Muslim young people and support us with prayer, money and as volunteers.
Many thanks to all who came along to support us!
