Gap Year

Jenni and Sixth Form young ladies from Kenilworth

Growing through Difference

Join one of the most innovative and challenging youth work charities in the UK, striving to see Christian and Muslim young people coming together to form real friendships that move them to be peace-makers amongst their peers and in the world.

People of many faiths hold to a command along the lines of “love your neighbour”, yet we all struggle to at times to live this out with people around us who are not similar to us, and especially if they do not have the same faith as us.   So despite the differences, and in fact because of them, we want to help you become the peacemaking neighbour, while being willing to listen to what someone of another faith shares about what they believe.

A Gap Year with The Feast will find you working with a church or mosque, and local secondary schools to help run events where Christian and Muslim young people come together to explore faith, create friendships and change lives!

Are you?

1. About to finish college or Sixth Form?

A Gap Year with The Feast will give you a chance to try your hand at youth work in both local church and secondary school contexts, gain new experiences and skills, make new friends and have lots of fun.

2. Taking a year off after university or Bible College?

If so you may also be looking for a new experience of youth work to stretch your thinking.  Or curious about youth work in a multi-faith community and would like to know how best to run inter-faith dialogue events for Christian and Muslim young people.

The Feast Gap Year will give you the chance to put youth work skills into practice through running events for young people of different faiths.  You will also get opportunity to reflect on your own understanding of mission and dialogue in a multi-faith context.

Please Note

At this stage we are only able to invite Christians to undertake a Gap Year with The Feast, but soon we will be extending this opportunity to our Muslim young people when we add a Muslim youth worker to our team.  We greatly apologise for this inconvenience, and please let us know if you are interested as we will definitely get in touch as this situation changes.

Some the Amazing Experiences you will find

It goes without saying that we are very excited about what we have planned for our Christian Gap Year young adults.  Here is a quick look at what we have in store:

  • Real friendships with young people and volunteer leaders from the Muslim faith;
  • Nationally recognised training in and exposure to Christian Ministry with people other faiths;
  • Up to 12 diverse events where Christian and Muslim young people come together, possibly including sport, drama, music and comedy;
  • Leader on gender specific day outings or weekends away;
  • Leader on a local Christian holiday club in a mainly South-Asian area;
  • Working in a secondary school alongside a Schools Worker with The Feast;
  • Developing leadership, management and administrative skills;
  • Discipling Christian young people through encounters with Muslim peers;
  • Helping young people from various churches start their journey of engaging with Muslim peers.
